Referee appointed for Man Utd vs Liverpool: Favorable for The Reds

  • Wednesday, 22:18 Day 13/03/2024
  • The focal point of English football this weekend is the four FA Cup quarter-final matches. Among them, the most notable fixture is the showdown between Manchester United and Liverpool at Old Trafford. The referee team for this match has been revealed.

Specifically, referee John Brooks has been assigned by the FA along with assistant referees Lee Betts and Timothy Wood. The fourth official is Anthony Taylor. Meanwhile, Tim Robinson will oversee the VAR room.

This season, Liverpool has had a favorable run with referee John Brooks. Earlier in January, he officiated the FA Cup third-round match between Arsenal and Liverpool, which saw Jurgen Klopp's side secure a 2-0 victory at the Emirates.

Prior to that, John Brooks also officiated the Carabao Cup fourth-round match between Bournemouth and Liverpool, which ended in a 2-1 victory for The Reds. Last August, he was also in charge of another Klopp's team victory, a 2-1 win over Newcastle in the third round of the Premier League.

The most recent match of Manchester United under the supervision of referee John Brooks was their clash against Tottenham in mid-January during the Premier League's 21st round. On that occasion, the Red Devils were held to a 2-2 draw by Spurs.

John Brooks, 34, has been officiating in the Premier League since 2021. In February of last year, he made a significant mistake by disallowing a goal from defender Pervis Estupinan in a match against Crystal Palace. Due to this error, he was suspended from officiating duties.

According to the FA's decision, the FA Cup quarter-final match between Manchester City and Newcastle will be officiated by referee Simon Hooper. Meanwhile, Andrew Madley will be in charge of the clash between Chelsea and Newcastle.
